My project needs a double width overhead projector cart, overhead transparencies for the x/y graph and grid, a thermometer, a fraction ruler, an elapsed time ruler, fraction ruler activities, and a class set of X/Y axis white boards.
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Jones's classroom raised $449

Instructing urban sixth graders in relating everyday activities to math standards is easier said than done. But, using an overhead in the classroom makes it less complicated and easier to present the intricate steps involved with such concepts as finding a fraction and decimal equivalency, corresponding Fahrenheit to Celsius on a thermometer, creating an X/Y axis graph, and computing elapsed time.
Currently, I have been using an old microwave oven cart for the overhead projector. Being on wheels and having the shelving is great but it is has "seen its day" and is becoming unstable. I am afraid it will not hold up another school year. For that reason, I am hoping to acquire an double width overhead cart that will hold needed supplies and provide a ledge for the materials at hand.
Our classroom overhead certainly gets a workout. Frequently, my "drawing" abilities compromise the coaching process of math instruction. Using prepared overhead transparencies would save time and be more realistic in demonstrating math skills.
Showing students how to use an X/Y axis on the overhead is challenging when they must use graph paper to show their results. For that reason, I am hoping to acquire a class set of X/Y axis white boards. It will allow my students to focus on accuracy of the graph and the related equation.
Your generosity will help us to fine tune math skills and improve benchmark scores in math. We would be ever so thankful to our GUARDIAN MATH ANGEL!
