Help me give my students an opportunity to read UNCLE TUNGSTEN the story of a boy during the 1940s in Britain who loves all things science and history. It is a wonderfully interesting text for our chemistry curriculum.

My Project
Hi there! I have been a teacher well... forever I guess! 25 years professionally however, I am currently thrilled to be teaching 11th grade students chemistry, which I absolutely love!!! But, many people wonder why this subject and this grade...
11th graders are almost always happy!
It's a great age to be! Upperclassman finally, probably driving, going to prom, senior year approaching - lots of exciting stuff. But then, they have to take the dreaded, scary chemistry class. Well, I try to make this course interesting, obviously it will be challenging enough just because of its abstract content but - if we can make it personal, relatable, then it becomes more understandable.
"Uncle Tungsten, A Boyhood Memoir" by Oliver Sacks is just that - personal, relatable and helps me as the teacher, make the science and history of science more understandable. I use the audio version and pdf or paper copies of the book in class but, its too time consuming to get out the Chromebooks, find the posting, scroll to the correct page number all before... dang, battery died! I would like to have a class set of this book for my students just like Ms. G provided for her students in the movie, Freedom Writers. There is not much nicer than holding a brand new book in your hand to read and I want that for my students as we use UNCLE TUNGSTEN to engage learning in a love of science.
