This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I have a group of 22 lively 7 year olds. A lot of them are new to the country and are getting accustomed to a new home and school life. Our different backgrounds make us a unique classroom.
Our days are filled with stories and adventure.
They love to tell stories about their country and all the fun things they miss. This year I intend to use those wonderful stories to build a good writing foundation. Our main focus will be literacy since a lot of them are still learning how to read and write.
My Project
My students will use these materials to easily transition back into in person learning and to keep the connection between remote and in person learning. The journals will be used to address the social emotional component of these unprecedented times by giving them a way to express their feelings and emotions. Keeping a journal, responding to culturally responsive topics, as well as documenting their “new normal,” will provide my students with an opportunity to be more active in their learning. The totes will allow for a safe to keep their personal belongings organized and separate from their classmates.
