This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
This year, I will be teaching a third grade ESL class. The group will consist of about 30 English Language Learners, ages 8-9 years old, with diverse backgrounds and each of them bringing their own diverse needs. Most students come from Spanish speaking homes and are emergent bilinguals.
There's a lot of uncertainty right now, but I do know this: I need to provide my third graders an online learning environment in which they can thrive.
Many of my students have siblings, and remote learning can be hard when an entire family is working from home! My third graders need your help to get the resources that will turn their homes into classrooms!
My Project
Every year, thanks to generous donors like you, I provide my students with homework planners. The daily routine of recording assignments provides students with essential organizational skills for high school, college, and beyond! It also fosters independence and communication with parents. This year, students will be in class only 50% of the time, with the other 50% of instruction happening online. Planners will also help them keep track of a new school schedule!
With some of all of students' instruction happening online, I want to provide my students with headphones with microphone so they can engage in virtual Zoom classes regardless of what's going on in their homes.
In the spring, many students faced challenges engaging in remote learning, because their parents and siblings were also working from home! I hope to help my students create a space where they can focus and better communicate with their teachers and classmates.
