This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My 2nd-grade students are kind, caring, and excited to learn about the world around them. They arrive at school every day looking to share their experiences and foster relationships with their peers and teachers. My students have developed a love for learning and enjoy studying and learning about new topics.
My classroom is a NEST inclusion classroom consisting of students on the autism spectrum, as well as neurotypical students.
They work extremely hard within their classroom setting each day. More importantly, they have also worked diligently to adapt to significant changes in their daily schedules, academics, and social life throughout remote learning due to COVID-19.
As we prepare to return to the school building in some capacity, my students deserve a safe, healthy learning environment that will allow for them to feel comfortable enough to continue working to their best abilities.
My Project
When NYC Public Schools closed abruptly in March of 2020 due to COVID-19, no one knew what to expect. Administrators, teachers, and parents quickly worked to help develop an effective learning plan for all children that could be completely remotely. As challenging as this was, we all came together in order to keep our students safe and healthy.
As we prepare to continue to navigate through the unknown, it is detrimental that classrooms have enough cleaning and sanitizing supplies in the fall to continue to ensure the healthy & safety of those in our care.
All students, as well as their families deserve a clean, safe, and comfortable learning environment. Many of my students come from low-income areas where it may be difficult to locate and obtain these products during a time like this. With cuts in budget and funding for public schools, it also can not be assumed that these essential items will provided to classrooms at the beginning of the school year.
These products will greatly benefit my classroom and my students and allow for me to do my part in stopping a potential spread of any potential viruses or illnesses within the classroom, school building, and home lives of my students.
