My students need run club shirts to help us have a group identity at our 5Ks. They also need stop watches and cones in order to set time goals and measure them accurately.
Research has proven that we need to teach our students healthy habits at an early age and that exercise provides more oxygen to the brain, thus making it work better. Our school has a dedicated group of fifty boys that arrive early to school for our Blazin' Boys Run Team.
The boys in our Blazin' Boys Run Team are in grades 3rd-5th grade and come from a variety of backgrounds.
One thing all the boys have in common is that they have a good attitude, put forth a solid effort, and want to have fun while running. At each meeting the boys practice stretches, discuss healthy choices, and reflect on their personal goals.
My Project
Day one the boys participated in a practice run and set goals for their performance on the run team. Our boys would like a solid way to measure both long and short running goals. We will use the cones to mark specific running trails and lengths for the boys. The cones will also give us the opportunity to set up 3 or 4 different courses so we are not creating a running hazard with fifty boys running in the same small spot. Team leaders and students will use the timers to mark and document individual speed progress toward the end goals. The timers will help the students feel motivated as they move toward their goals. The shirts requested will help our team feel united and safe. Our team is entering a few 5Ks and having shirts that match will not create team identity, but they will also allow us to quickly identify team members in large crowds for safety purposes.
Donations to our team project will not only promote healthy habits and unity, but will also help us set measurable goals as we mark our progress towards them.
