This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Imagine what it would be like to have to research a scientific topic only to find you have no books with which to draw information from. Or to begin an experiment only to realize that there are no materials to conduct it. That is the everyday reality in my classroom.
My classroom is a buzz of activity, focused on giving kids the opportunities that they may not get elsewhere.
My 5th grade class is in a high-need, low income public school, nestled in the heart of southern California. Each student in my class is a vibrant, excited learner, who looks for the next opportunity to learn.
My Project
A large portion of the Earth Science standards in our state focuses on the study of the universe and its subsequent parts. To successfully hit these standards, I would love to use the materials requested to teach a cross-curricular unit on Astronomy. Using the Magic School Bus reading books, the informational books of science experiments and space research books, as well as the math investigations and social studies connections that can be found in the Space Science Tubs, my students will gain access to the standards in a way they would never have without the aforementioned materials.
By giving students access to various materials, presenting differentiated and hands-on investigations into the curriculum, you will be helping them to learn about Space and Astronomy in a way they never have before.
The literature will give them the basic information. The science tubs will give them the scientific experiments and materials to further their knowledge of the universe. The students will be able to have a better understanding of everything around them because of your donation.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
