This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember learning how to read? I want to make reading fun and exciting for my students. My goal is to make reading a lifelong enjoyment for all of my children. Having hands-on and engaging activities for them to be able to use in our classroom is what I need to be able to do this.
I teach a classroom full of 26 first graders in a low income school.
Every student deserves the best that we can give them!! These students need all of the support and encouragement we can offer. Some students do not have the materials to reinforce what we are learning in our classrooms and do not receive the home support that they need. I try to make our classroom environment a fun, safe, friendly and educational atmosphere where we can all learn together.
My Project
Having these literacy resources in my classroom will help my students in their journey of becoming lifelong readers. Being able to provide my students the opportunity to use phonics and literacy manipulative's not only allows for gaining the beginning reading skills they need, but also allows the children to work together in small group center activities cooperatively and to practice the necessary life skills of getting along with one another. I also will be able to use these activities for direct instruction with small groups of children and whole class instruction.
These literacy activities will not only benefit my students I have this year, but also future classes for many years to come.
Reading should be fun and interactive, and having these literacy games and other resources will do just that.
