My Students
Our school is nestled in the heart of Detroit! The students come from various socioeconomic backgrounds, but they all receive an equitable education. They thrive in all aspects of their education and are serviced by some of the best educators, some of whom have been teaching for over 20 years for the same school. Even during the pandemic, they continue to show up and rise to the high level of expectation that our school district has in place. These students are simply the BEST!
My Project
These materials will help the black and brown students see their beautiful shades in their everyday lives. As our students create projects in art, or attend book clubs/circles, they are able to discover and rediscover the amazing shades of black, brown, and melanin in the resources they use everyday.
The young ladies are able to express their feelings through writing and daily journals while participating in our upcoming after school program, "A Safe Space for Black Girls".
The lessons taught will focus on the strength of black people, the importance of black children in society, and inclusion no matter what!
