Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My scholars love school and are eager to learn! They can be seen showing their leadership skills by reading to a classmate, assisting a younger scholar with classwork or organizing materials for a group project. When visitors enter my classroom, they always compliment my scholars on how engaged they are in discussions about books and conversations about using innovative strategies in math. They show their communication skills by making announcements to the class and "turning and talking" to their partners.

Each of my students come from low-income homes.

The cultural make-up of our students is as follows: 91% Latino (Dominican Republic, Mexico, and Ecuador), 7% are African or African-American; and 1% are Asian. 36% of our scholars are English Language Learners. More than half of our students are part of after-school programs that allow them to be active, express themselves on stage, or develop their skills in reading, writing and math.

My Project

Publishing a class newsletter will allow for my scholars to share what they've learned, tell family members about the great things that happen in their class and, give them an opportunity to improve their writing skills.

By providing them with these materials, my scholars will be able to write articles for a monthly class newsletter and distribute it to members of the school community.

Parents and family members will find this newsletter entertaining and informative. Teachers in the school building will learn about the many special activities and accomplishments taking place in the classroom. Administrators and visitors from the community will read about the innovative ways that students learn.

Monthly newsletters are a great way to keep parents up-to-date with classroom and school activities. Our newsletter will have all of the important dates for the month. Dates such as ELA and math assessments, ceremonies, and assemblies will go on the newsletter. With your donation, my scholars will have the materials needed to write articles for a class newsletter to be distributed monthly.
