Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

We have been working on learning about Financial Literacy in our classroom. We have created budget journals where we know how to keep a budget and how money works. Our class has expressed interest in three projects these materials will help bring to life.

The first project is to learn and teach their school peers about historical financial moments.

The first one they have chosen is Black Wall Street. They would like to learn about the Greenwood District and The Tulsa Massacre of 1921. We will look at the financial fallout post-massacre and a part of our Black History Month. The student wants to create a bulletin board to educate their peers on the history and economic ramifications of the riot. They want to use the books like Unspeakable and Black Wall Street: From Riot to Renaissance in Tulsa's Historic Greenwood District to gather information. Then use the materials like People Cut Outs and bulletin board paper to make an educational bulletin board on the subject.

The next project the students are interested in is creating a garden at our school. We will create pages in our budget journals to see how much it will cost and keep track of what we need. The students will plan DonorsChoose projects to get materials and keep track of what should go in each project and how much each project will cost. The students request fun stickers like Gardening and plant Stickers. We also asked for items to keep up our journals, like rulers and glue.

The third project will focus on how the government is involved with our money. We will use Historic Buildings of Washington, D.C.: A Coloring Book to take a virtual tour of our us capitol. We will use the mini whiteboards on our tour. Thank you for helping!
