My Students

Like many schools, our school will confront the genuine challenge of receiving students whose learning may have gaps due to distance learning. My 8th graders will be headed to high school and need to gather the skills necessary to succeed there. I will need to assess and fill any gaps that are sure to present themselves. Lessons must be engaging and flexible enough to meet student needs based on the need for skill gaps. Based on surveys, parents want to assist but find it hard to move through the assignment with their child. Lessons need to be kid and parent-friendly. Activities should be engaging and involve varied learning modalities. I want to build lessons to hit the ground running when school starts, and TEACHERS PAY TEACHERS will help me do that.

My Project

Soon school will start, and my 8th graders will be returning to the classroom. I teach ELA. I require all students have a free reading novel at all times. I encourage pair reading as well. I just began to realize the lack of diversity within my collection. I believe that reading about experiences different from our own and listening to other voices inspires empathy. In this day and age, we need empathy, kindness, and understanding. Having quality selections reflecting the black experience will foster excellent discussion and reflection in my classroom. I would appreciate help offering my students books that inspire empathy.
