My Project

During Black History Month, my school principal has asked me to help bring community members into the school to greet students and also read aloud to them. Many students have heard the stories of Ruby Bridges, Dr. Martin Luther King, and Rosa Parks. I want to expose them to other stories of amazing Black people in American History.

How many students know the super soaker water gun was invented by a Black man?

How many students know the potato chip was accidentally created by a Black man? Do students know who Bessie Coleman, Mae Jemison, or Molly Williams are by name?

With these picture books, I want to expose my students to the many accomplishments, well known and lesser known of Black Americans.
