This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
This two-part lesson will introduce students to the lives of black inventors with the aid of media, primary sources, and government documents. The first part invites students to research the lives of notable African American inventors and analyze some of their patents. In the second part, students can create their own inventions for student enrichment in the Black and Latino Studies full year course.
Students in the Black and Latino Studies course (CT PA 19-12 and PA 21-2) will examine invention through the lens of resistance and resilience as they begin to create "Shark Tank" style pitches to brainstorm ideas to change the effects of systematic racism in communities of color in CT.
These junior and senior students in my classes at WHS are multi-racial and multi-ethnic and many of the students are first generation American citizens in Willimantic, CT.
