My Students
What could be better than watching eagles soar on a beautiful spring day?
My highly capable fourth and fifth grade students love to learn and are passionate about science and their environment.
We take many environmental field trips throughout the year to study different habitats (wetland, marsh, dock, beach, etc), but we don't have any binoculars or reference materials for studying birds.
My Project
I have written a multidisciplinary unit on birds that I will teach next year. As part of this unit, I would like my students to not only watch birds in their natural habitat, but I would also like for them to read and write reports about birds. One important aspect of this unit will be focusing on how birds adapt to their environment. The models of bird feet will provide a unique opportunity for students to compare the feet of a variety of birds.
With budget cuts, we have no supplies for science.
I have requested two binoculars, 18 reference books on birds, a poster and a set of bird molds with extra plaster to make models of feet. With your donation, I can make environmental science an important part of my curriculum and at the same time encourage children to respect and protect our environment.
