This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach students in Los Angeles that are amazing human beings who need to see themselves reflected in their curriculum. Many of my students are newcomers, and those who are Los Angeles natives alike, need to have a diverse array of books available to turn them into students who love reading. The more they find awesome books, the more they love to read.

My students are curious, smart, quick learners.

I hope to enhance their learning with your generosity and kindness.

My Project

Louise Erdrich is an incredible author. This book would help my students want to read this summer and increase the cultural visibility students need in books. So many of my students know very little about Indigenous Americans and are interested in their stories-- and would be able to relate to this.

As Dr. Bishop wrote about in Windows, Mirrors and Sliding Glass Doors, it is important that students see themselves, see others, especially those around them, and learn to love and relate to their communities.

Also, it is pretty important that we give kids a break from technology this summer. Thank you!
