This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
With your donations, my students will be able to engage in the design process to build biomedical innovations. As part of the curriculum, students need to design prosthetic arms and other medical innovations with limited supplies and often end up using whatever 'extras' I can find in my classroom. If we are able to add additional supplies such as yarn, string, double-sided tape, etc. students will have access to expand their learning and thought process in designing a functional prosthetic arm.
In addition, students in my medical innovations class are taking common medical devices and concepts and improving them to make them more functional.
With limited supplies, they cannot maximize their innovations. The supplies requested will develop a new way to build casts to increase comfort, and glucose monitoring for diabetics, and eliminate an extra trip to the doctor's office with an at-home otoscope that can send images to the doctor with potential ear infections.
My students work really hard to learn more about the medical field. The courses they're enrolled in (Project Lead the Way) push their thinking not only within medicine but also within the STEM field. Many of my students are females who are leading the way in increasing the number of women in the healthcare profession. With your support, I can continue to maximize their growth and passion for this field.
