My students need one microscope and a set of 20 slides of human cells.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Collins's classroom raised $768
This project is fully funded
I teach high school biology in an inner-city school. My students love to do labs and activities in class. Unfortunately, we do not have a large budget to purchase extra supplies.
My students have greatly enjoyed any and all laboratory experiments and activities we have done this year. One of their favorites was using the microscopes we have to look at different slides. Our microscopes are outdated and inadequate for my high school classes. Several of the microscopes can only be viewed on the 10x, which is not as detailed as other microscopes.
A new, more advanced microscope would allow my students to further study slides. When we talk about cell structures and cell processes, it would be wonderful to have microscopes to explore the cells. My students will be able to view more detailed slides such as mitosis in onion roots, stoma on plant leaves, and epithelium cells of the human mouth. The lab activities would be a wonderful and fun way to further their understanding of the material from class. Not only would I be able to use this in my biology class, but it would also be useful for the Anatomy and Physiology class. The microscope could be used multiple times, in different classes, helping several students every year.
With your support, you will be bringing histology to my classroom. My students will have an opportunity to study the different slides, and have a deeper learning of the concepts in class including mitosis, meiosis, prokaryotes, eukaryotes, plant cells, and animal cells.
