Biographies: Notable People Who Can Inspire Young Minds
Help me give my students the opportunity to immerse themselves in biographies for research and exploration of the genre. This biography set, Ordinary People Change the World, is appropriate for the grade level and age of my students.

My Students
My second graders are filled with curiosity and wonder. They arrive at school each day ready to learn and be part of a warm, caring, inclusive community that we have been working on since school started. They are excited to be at school and their passion for learning shows when they work together and get to experience things that inspire them.
They are compassionate little people who I have seen go out of their way to help others.
They care about the world and strive to figure out how they can make it a better place. They are leaders in the classroom, throughout the school and in the community. As I look for inspiration each day I do not have to go far. I find it every single morning when they walk through my classroom door. This year has been a challenge with switching back and forth from in person to remote learning but it has not stifled their desire to learn and grow.
My Project
Biographies are going to be the focus of the next literacy unit for my second graders. The books included in this set will help immerse them during all parts of my reading and writing workshops including shared reading and independent reading.
The variety of people represented in this text set will give my students the opportunity to learn about many inspiring individuals as well as give them choice into who they want to learn more about to write a biography in writing workshop.
Learning about the people in these books could be an inspiration to my students.
