This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Covid-19 will not be with us forever, so I must plan for the time when we are all back together again. To that end, I am requesting various Bio-Rad kits like the pGLO bacterial transformation kits with refills; DNA Extraction; Protein Analysis; ELISA Antigen/Antibody assay; and GMO kits.

Unfortunately, when COVID-19 forced distance learning and safety restrictions on our school, we could not conduct the types of labs that my students deserved, and now I must replace these (time and temperature-sensitive) reagents for the upcoming year.

I am requesting material like the BioRad Bacterial Transformation with the pGLO gene kit so that my students can conduct their own experiments on the effects of various factors on transformation efficiency rates. When funded, our students will research factors that influence transformation efficiency rates. As these experiments are student-generated, we will require a lot of resources to ensure that students have enough materials to perform multiple trials.

The other kits focus on the study of proteins as they pertain to nutrition and the immune response. DNA extraction kits will show how the process of studying DNA begins. Lastly, GMO kits illustrate how humans can manipulate genes by inserting specialized genes.

My job is to do everything in my power to help my students graduate high school and advance to college.

As a science teacher, my goal is to unleash my students' natural curiosity about the world around us. I cannot show my students the latest advances in the field of biotechnology without your help.
