This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from low income, hard-working families. In my second grade class I have students fresh off of almost a full year of distance learning due to the pandemic, and many are English learners. However, they are eager to try new things and work hard each day.

My students always make me smile, and I love watching them grow as learners!

We also spend a lot of time building a sense of community in our classroom. We learn that making mistakes is okay, but it's not okay to not try. This is a lesson that the students take to heart, and one that sticks with them all year, and hopefully throughout their lives. Giving students choices to choose where and how they learn best helps them stay motivated and engaged.

My Project

In our second grade classroom, the students sit at round tables which are great for collaboration and conversations. However, the drawback is that there is absolutely NO storage space for their folders, notebooks, and book bags! This makes it difficult for the students to stay organized, and results in our classroom looking quite cluttered. It also makes it difficult for students to have a workable work space on their tables.

I have requested book bins so my students have a way to help them keep their belongings together in an organized way!
