Binding Together the Past, Present, and Their Future
My students need a binding machine and various sizes of comb bindings to create their own history books.

My Students
According to John Franklin Hope, “We must go beyond textbooks, go out into the bypaths and untrodden depths of the wilderness and travel and explore and tell the world the glories of our journey.” I want my students to be able to create their own textbooks using a binding machine and comb bindings.
I teach sixth and seventh grade students in a low income area of Mississippi.
Our school is classified as a Title 1 school where most of our students receive free lunch. Most of my students have never used any kind of research materials and aren't interested in the textbook. In order to allow them to have the skills and knowledge needed to be successful, I hope to help provide them with additional materials for the classroom and allow them to create their own textbooks!
My Project
By allowing students to create their own textbooks, they will be interested and engaged active learners. They will also be able to utilize the binding machine to create a variety of other projects and educational materials. They will be able to research, create, and produce their own historical textbooks and products!
Dull textbooks with incorrect reading levels deter learning.
By allowing my students to produce their own textbooks, I will hopefully spark an interest in history and literature. It will not only help their history knowledge, but also increase their reading and writing skills.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
