This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

How does imagery work in a piece of literature? What does it actually look like? What effect does it have on the text overall? These are some of the questions I would like my students to explore in our English class.

I teach at a Title I school in Manhattan in which most students don't get to take an art class until 12th grade.

My students, mostly Hispanic and African-American, are smart, creative, and eager to learn, as long as the learning entertains and engages them. In my 18 years of teaching, I've found that students produce some of their best work when they are allowed to be creative and show what they know. The irony is that they lack the supplies to create this work. This is what I would like to change.

My Project

For this project, I am requesting a coil binding machine and related accessories for use in my English classes. With the device, students will be able to make their journals, portfolios, and workbooks. Students will also be able to collect their creative writings into a booklet for posterity and display. Having professionally bound resources will help students take pride in their work.

One of the biggest challenges students face is keeping organized, something the binding machine will help solve.

By binding together worksheets and assignments, students will have everything they need in one place.
