Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My school is a Title I school with a wonderfully diverse group of students. My students are ages eight and nine. The majority of my students are ELL (English Language Learners) whose parents work most of the day and into the evening. They spend most of their day in school and in after-school programs. Sadly, my students do not get a lot of adult attention or support and come to school in need of emotional support as well as academic support.
The students that I have are hardworking, determined, grateful, and curious.
These are just a few words that describe the amazing young people who enter my classroom each day. My students try to learn to the best of their abilities but need a lot of small group work. They are eager to learn, yet often times when they leave here they no longer have the English support they need.
I try to engage my students in the classroom as much as I can by providing a variety of activities and sending them with things to do at home to support the work we did in class. They are our future, and I want to give them a great start
My Project
We will finally all be back in school for the 2021-2022 year, I am very excited. I want to get a binder for each of my students to help them start the year off with organization and clear structure while navigating departmentalization which will be new for them. The binders will also help make turning in work easier and will keep their desks cleaner. The binders will have pocketed dividers that will be labeled according to the unit we are learning about.
By teaching my class how to organize their school work in a binder, they will be able to carry this skill to future grades.
After I teach students how to use their binder they will be more accountable for completing and turning in their work since they'll know exactly where it is. My goal is for students to spend more time on learning and less time trying to figure out where their materials are.
