My Project
I teach 6 Freshman Success classes. In this class we prepare students to be organized digitally (Google Drive) as well as teaching them to use binders to organize their school paper trail. I supply each student with a binder for the year as well as a set of binder dividers. These binders come to class every day, and essentially are used in every class period every day. Having a physical binder teaches students physical organization - they SEE it, the USE it, they DO it!
My goal is to continue changing student lives by teaching them organizational skills that they will carry through high school, to college/trade school, and into their responsible adult lives.
I have been teaching my students how to use binders effectively for 35 years. It gives me great satisfaction when they email me or visit me to tell me how much this skill has helped them in their young adult lives!
The youngsters I teach mostly come from economically stressed households where the cost of a binder is usually too much for families to carry. I try to reduce that financial stress by teaching my students to use ONE binder for all their classes.
