This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I want to give my students so much because they have so little. Most of the students I work with come from homes below the poverty line in the Bronx, and I want them to have the chance to experience something positive that can influence their lives. Some of these students don't have access to supplies at home.
I want my students to be exposed to as much as possible so that they don't fall behind.
Even though they have so much going against them, they bounce back each time and come to school ready to learn. They look to our school as a safe place and that makes me want to provide them with everything I can.
My Project
Not having a gym/auditorium makes Physical Education at our school sometimes challenging. We have been creative with what we have and have been trying to expand our equipment as much as we can. Most of the gym equipment provided by the school is worn out and outdated, which is unfair for the students.
I know our students would be more than grateful to receive a billiard table for our school.
The students will enjoy these games during the school day and in our after school program, which helps the students stay after school and off the streets. The billiard table will help our students build their hand and eye coordination. My after school program is growing and needs more equipment for the students to stay engaged and motivated. Trying to build a safe and healthy environment for our students to be an active participant with their friends.
