Help me give my students resources to build their English language proficiency skills. These materials will assist them both academically and social emotionally.
The items that I am requesting will provide my students with hands-on activities to build their English language proficiency skills. Our district has a limited amount of resources for students who are new to our country and do not speak any English. We now have 18 students at our school who have just immigrated to the United States that I provide English services to.
The goals for my project are to utilize these language centers after I have provided students with direct instruction on the targeted language skill.
Many of the categories that these activities have students practicing directly align with the curriculum that I am using. I just want to provide my students with opportunities to practice their skills in a hands-on, collaborative fashion instead of just a workbook page.
My students all speak English as their second language. Many of these students are new to the United States from all over the world. These countries include Turkey, Guatemala, Nicaragua, and Honduras. They bring with them a wealth of knowledge, experiences, and cultures. They face many obstacles with a language barrier and with so many new changes in their lives. I make sure that the one thing that I always want them to remember is that bilingualism is a superpower and to never stop speaking their native language as they learn English.
