The items that I am requesting can make a huge impact on my second language students because they allow them to practice all four language proficiency domains: speaking, listening, reading, and writing daily. These high-quality materials help provide best practice techniques to help build their skills. These include providing work banks, graphic organizers, and rubrics to guide their writing. Also, these materials make a difficult task (learning a new language) fun and engaging. They allow for collaboration with peers, and they help facilitate speaking activities.
My goals for this project are to build students' language proficiency skills and confidence in speaking in academic settings within their classroom and socially with their peers.
Unfortunately, for many second language students, the general education materials do not provide modifications for second language learners. Moreover, the materials can have language content that is too technical for second-language students.
My students all have a huge superpower. They all speak another language fluently as they acquire English. I remind them each day that this, in fact, is a superpower. I never want them to lose their native language, which is a huge part of their culture and identities. I want them to acquire English in a less painful and engaging way with these materials!
