This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
This year I have two groups of students as well as virtual and in person students in both classes. It is a challenge to do both without the necessary supplies that my district unfortunately cannot provide.
My students are in a dual language program, learning both Spanish and English.
A lot of these students live in poverty and have huge gaps in their education prior to coming to the United States.
My Project
I teach dual language, which means my students receive half of their daily instruction in English and the other half in Spanish. As a second grade teacher it is a crucial time for students to fall in love with reading!
Having never taught Spanish I do not have the books for students to take home and read.
Students are allowed to take their computers home to read but it hurts their eyes looking at the screen for too long.
I want my students to be reading every night at home, whether it is in English or Spanish. It is important for them to develop both languages and they need books to do so.
