This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have a group of 28 energetic and happy students that are ready for Kindergarten every day! They cannot wait to listen to our favorite stories, learn new songs and make new friends. My students are all 5 years old when they start school and for many of them, this is their first educational experience. I want it to be Epic!

Our school is set in a beautiful Mexican neighborhood in a large city in Illinois with lots of culture.

It is also a high poverty neighborhood with many parents that spend most of their time working to make ends meet. Kids are excited to come to our school because we provide the structure as well as the experiences that they need to make learning meaningful to them.

My Project

My students will use the sight word games during their Literacy Center time. The games are high interest and will keep them actively engaged during sight word practice.

Fishing for sight words is a great game for 5 year olds.

The Dot Markers are also a favorite in the Kindergarten classroom. Students will use the Dot markers to find and mark sight words. These games will help students' build fluency and will keep them interested for a long period of time. Kindergarten through second grade students have a short span of time. Students must learn their sight words and "recall" should be automatic if we want good reading habits.
