This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are creative and love to learn new things everyday. They are usually as excited as I am to come to school. I love how happy and motivated they are about their education. They always know how to make anyone smile.

My Project

I'm a new bilingual kindergarten teacher in a high-need community. My students come from very low income families and school is usually the only place where they will have access to materials to read.

Our classroom was opened this year because the school is going Bilingual.

For this reason we don't have many appropriate materials for the children's grade level and for their language needs. I really want to provide my students with a great learning environment that is child centered, appropriate for their needs and that will spark their interest. Although we need many materials the most important thing we are missing right now are activities for them to do during centers and books. Kindergarten is a very important grade because it builds the foundation for a child's academic success. By having appropriate books in our classroom library the children can engage in their own reading, explore books and the features of written language. I can also use these books for read alouds, guided reading and small group instruction.
