Bilingual Books to Encourage Native Language Pride!

My Project

More than half of the students at my school are multilingual. We are happy they are developing their literacy skills in English, but many of them are losing their native language abilities. This can create barriers between older and younger generations in families.

One way to promote language and cultural identities is through sharing bilingual books.

The students would be able to borrow these books and take them home for reading with their families. I am hoping to get books in our main languages: Spanish, Tagalog, Pashto, Dari, Vietnamese, Chinese, Somali, Amharic, and Arabic.

We have a Family Multi-lingual Night at our school in the next few months. We are really trying to ensure that not only will students not lose their native language, but that they will cherish their bilingualism.
