This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

What I love most about my students is their incredible resilience, joy, and eagerness to learn — even when navigating the challenges of a new language and culture. Many of my Kindergarten through third-grade students are newcomers to this country, and for many, Spanish is their first language. They come from families who are working hard to build a better future, and our classroom is one of the first places where they feel safe, seen, and celebrated.

This project, Bilingual Books para Brillar: Justice Through Language, will give my students the gift of representation and access.

With bilingual books, cards, and manipulatives, they will be able to learn core academic concepts — like colors, shapes, numbers, animal names, and verbs — in both English and Spanish. These tools are not just about learning vocabulary; they are about affirming each child’s identity and honoring the language they bring with them.

By learning through materials that reflect their home language and culture, my students will grow more confident in English while continuing to feel proud of their roots. These resources also give English-speaking students the opportunity to explore Spanish, building bridges between cultures in our diverse classroom.

Every book, card, and hands-on material will help make our learning more inclusive, joyful, and just. Thank you for helping our students shine — or, as we say in Spanish, ¡Gracias por ayudar a nuestros estudiantes a brillar! a ser excelentes miembros de nuestra comunidad.
