My Project
My school is blessed to receive many new-to-country students from all over the world who speak many different languages. The small English Language Department (1 & 1/3 teachers) strives to make these students feel welcome and provide a safe space to learn about school in America and practice listening and speaking English.
We need books in their home languages to support teachers and students in transferring their background knowledge to their new settings and expectations.
These picture books will help show the students that we value their home language and culture and that we honor the education they come with. The pictures and text can be used to help grow the students' vocabulary, to help the students teach the teachers, and as seeds for oral language skills.
