This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is located in a largely immigrant, low-income community.

We are a public PreK-6 school serving roughly 700 students. Nearly 80% of our students are English learners and 100% qualify for free/reduced rate lunch (low-income indicator). Nevertheless, our amazing students are eager to be the best they can be.

My Project

In this project, we are requesting Spanish bilingual books on a range of topics, including fiction and nonfiction books. The majority of the books will enable students to practice their Spanish reading skills as we work to build biliterate learners in our class. A part of these books will also supplement the English Language Arts curriculum in our classroom. Although learning in our class happens in both English and Spanish, we have limited Spanish resources. These materials will equip students with the tools needed to make connections between the two languages. If we truly want to help students to become biliterate, giving them access to bilingual resources is essential.

Our class is currently preparing to transition into a bilingual classroom.

Having access to books is a basic necessity in any classroom, and we urge you to consider supporting us with the cost of even 1 Spanish language book for our class. We thank you in advance for your consideration.
