My students are fun, compassionate, and curious young children. Every day is fresh, new, and exciting, even on Zoom!
Our school is one of the most diverse in the district and is located in a tight-knit community in the heart of San Francisco.
Many of my students' cousins, parents, and even grandparents have attended our school!
The community bond shows through as students giggle, play, and learn together throughout the day.
My Project
One thing I love about my school is the rich diversity of our students. This year, I have many students who speak one or more languages other than English as home. Bilingualism is a wonderful trait that should be nurtured! Sadly, many students attending schools in the United States experience language loss. That is, they learn English in school and stop speaking their native language at home.
Providing bilingual books will allow my students to listen to books in English during class and then read the same stories with their families in their home languages.
Additionally, students will see and hear their languages represented in these wonderful books. Representation is an important part of helping students feel like they belong in school as well as society as a whole.
