This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are curious, bright, and eager to grow as bilingual learners. I teach in a 3rd grade Dual Language Immersion (DLI) classroom, where students learn in both English and Spanish every day. They work incredibly hard to develop literacy skills in two languages, and a well-stocked classroom library is essential to their success.

Many of my students are still developing foundational reading skills in both languages, and they need access to high-interest, culturally relevant books that reflect their experiences, engage them in reading, and stretch their abilities.

Unfortunately, our current classroom library lacks enough engaging bilingual and Spanish-language texts for independent reading, small groups, and partner work.

This project will help me build a classroom library that will include books in Spanish and bilingual formats that support their language development, spark joy, and build confidence as readers. I’m hoping to include picture books, early chapter books, nonfiction, and graphic novels so that every child can find something they love.
