My Project

Our library wants to offer a larger selection of bilingual AR books in English and Spanish. This will help our bilingual students strengthen their reading skills and improve their comprehension through self-selected, pleasure reading. Many of the books we aim to add are graphic novels and picture books, which are particularly engaging and support language development with their illustrations.

Having access to a variety of interesting books in both languages—at an appropriate reading level—will allow our students to continue developing their skills in Spanish while transferring that knowledge to English.

Our students are excited to pick a new book to read and take home with them each night. However, for many of our ESOL families, it can be difficult for them to support their children’s reading development at home, especially when they themselves are not fluent in English. By increasing our library’s collection of bilingual books, we can provide these families with essential resources to help them engage more effectively in their children's learning and support the nightly reading practice that is so important for academic success.
