My Project
Last year, I read a book entirely in Spanish to my mostly English-speaking classroom. I noticed that the students that primarily spoke and understood Spanish, perked up immediately. I had their attention! It wasn't something I planned, but it is something I will do again. Many of my students went home and shared with their families about how they had a new understanding about how some of their peers felt when they couldn't entirely understand the book I was reading.
Bilingual books are a great way for me to not only create an all-inclusive library, but also an all-inclusive classroom.
In addition to the bilingual books we are requesting, I am planning a unit on germs that includes showing students first hand how they can transfer germs even when they think they have washed their hands. The germ kit is an engaging and fun way to show our students this concept.
