My Students

Imagine sitting still for 6 hours everyday. Would you be able to do your best thinking, your best learning? Neither can my students, and yet that is what is expected of them. Yet, research shows movement improves student learning.

My students are a diverse group of learners, with most coming from homes in poverty.

Almost 25% of my students officially qualify for special education services and 30% speak a language other than English at home. What all my students have in common is a need to move and be active...in a school system that works against moving to learn.

My Project

I am requesting pedal machines to be placed underneath the students' desks. These machines will allow them to receive the movement and activity level they need while still working on the academic task at hand. Research has shown increased physical activity increases academic success, better lifelong fitness and improved overall health. These exercise machines will allow students to get the physical activity they need.

Physical activity is a necessity for student learning.

Unfortunately, the reality is that physical activity is being cut back in almost all schools. Help student learn through "fitness not sitness". You will not only be increasing a student's academic success you will be helping to fuel an enjoyment of physical activity, learning and lifelong health!
