Bike Desks: Pedal & Learn

My Students

I have the sweetest class ever! I have 20 1st graders. Ten are boys and ten are girls. I'm the only teacher in the classroom. My students enjoy coming to school every day. Their favorite part of the day is when they get to read a book to their teacher. Our school is located in Portsmouth and is a Title I school, which means that majority of the students come from low-income households. Our school receives free breakfast, lunch, and snack daily. Many students come to school without the proper school supplies.

We have so much fun in my class, and the kids love to learn!

My Project

Our first grade class would like a bike desk table. This table has 6 sets of bike pedals underneath so that students can pedal as they do their work. The pedals are noiseless so it will not interfere with our classroom instruction. This table will be used mainly for my special education students and teacher's assistant. It will keep students engaged in their work, and it will even get them excited about using the table. My regular education students will rotate to this table during math centers in order to complete their math work.

This table allows my students to exercise while learning.

Exercise helps to stimulate the brain, and pedaling while doing their work will help my students to better learn.
