Help me give my students a bigger than life view of the world around with a digital microscope.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Melvin's classroom raised $209
This project is fully funded
My Students
My students are so enthusiastic about being at school and learning. They are curious and inquisitive. I want to fuel that enthusiasm and help it grow.
Over 80% of my students qualify for free or reduced price lunch.
The socio-economic status of our community effects the amount of money we have to buy equipment for our classes. A piece of technology the students would love is is a digital microscope.
The socio-economic status of many of our families may prohibit students from traveling very far in their lifetime, so It is important for our rural students to explore and learn about their local environment. Our students love any activity that is hands on, and the digital microscope is definitely that.
My Project
A digital microscope would allow students to see their world in all its details and facets. Children are fascinated by what a handheld magnifying glass can do, so a digital microscope would be “huge”. It would enhance their understanding of objects in their environment, living and nonliving.
Students love any activity that is hands-on, and the digital microscope will deepen understanding of the composition of elements in their world.
It will appeal to their visual senses. This will definitely be the “wow” factor in our lessons. They will remember these activities forever. It may just be the hook for some to pursue further education, and/or a career, in the field of science. It may spark a new interest in visual arts.
• Students will research and read about careers that use digital
microscopes.
• Students will learn how to operate the equipment.
• Students would teach others how to use it.
• Students will keep a science log of all research and explorations.
This will include notes and summaries.
• Students will use the equipment in at least one oral presentation.
We already have guest speakers such as a forester, a soil and water conservation consultant, and an agriculturalist for units of study. These experiences include out door and hands on activities. We would add the digital microscope to these learning experiences.
More than half of students from low‑income households
