My Students

It is very important to use age appropriate sized materials when teaching Kinder and TK students. Bigger is Better in Kindergarten! Students will become independent learners and thinkers when they feel comfortable with the materials they are learning with.

I teach 24 energetic Kindergarten and Transitional Kinder (TK) students at a school with a very diverse population.

Students come from a variety of ethnic backgrounds and home languages. Some students qualify for the free or reduced lunch. We have Title I status, but receive limited funding for classroom supplies. Many of the TK students have had limited experience with organizing materials on their own.

My Project

With the move toward common core, everything is taught in base 10. This is a new concept to most Kindergarten and TK students. With the Giant Magnetic Ten-Frames and counters, my students will explore base ten number concepts easily... because they can see it and play with it. I will simply stick the ten-frames onto any magnetic surface area then use the counters to explore essential math concepts, including making ten, addition & subtraction, more than/less than, and more! The super-versatile Hands-on Ten-frames will give my students a concrete way to visualize numbers 1 to 20! These over sized trays will also help visualize when learning how to add and subtract. The supply bins and paper trays will help keep the manipulatives organized and help with creating a sense of independence when the TK students learn how to organize the materials in the small groups. Kindergarten and TK students love rewards! The treasure chest, will be motivate them to keep the classroom tidy.

With the declining budgets that all of our schools are facing, it is very difficult to keep up with the demands of the ever changing curriculum, and programs.
