This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students walk into the classroom everyday ready to learn and grow. They love to read and learn new things through books and technology.
I teach at at Title 1 school in Richmond, CA, where 100% of the students receive free breakfast and lunch.
Even though my students face many hardships outside of school, they want to become scholars so they can have a successful life one day. They are creative, fun and energetic, and they deserve the best resources.
My Project
The books and supplies I am requesting are for my students during Reader's Workshop and ALD (All Language Development). This year, I am planning on reading a variety of novels with my students that have diverse characters they can relate to. We will read these novels as a whole class and have a variety of assignments and projects related to the book and characters. These are books that I have read with previous classes and my students thoroughly enjoyed our novel study. I am excited to be able to read these books with my new class of students.
My students love to read books as a whole class, but due to larger class sizes this year, I need more books to complete our sets and replace old and worn books.
Many of my current books are falling apart and my students deserve to have books that not held together by tape and are clean. I also do not have enough books for each student, and in order for Reader's Workshop to be successful and engaging, students need to be able to have their own book to complete assignments and follow along with our reading.
The notebooks will be tabbed for a variety of sections for reading responses, vocabulary, and language conventions. Students will have their own notebook to take notes and complete assignments.
