Big Miracle for Small People

My students need 19 subscriptions to Weekly Reader and 6 copies each of the following three titles: "Whales", "Just for You", and "All By Myself".

I teach second grade is a rural area in South Carolina. A lot of my students have limited resources at home and school is a place where their eyes are opened to the opportunities that available beyond their communities.

In order to help them see what options will be available to them as adults, my students need to be provided with experiences that will allow them to see how their current performance in school will affect their future career choices. Books and field trips are ways to provide an experience for them.

Engaging reading material will help my students develop a love for learning and help them set goals. I have found that when a student has a goal, they can often resist temptations and avoid road blocks that will hinder their future success. I want each and every one of my students to have a bright future. These materials and books will help us get started on the right path. Weekly Reader is a magazine that my students will enjoy on their level while also meeting the standards that are required of second graders. Guided Reading books provide students with an opportunity to use reading strategies while reading on their individual reading level.

Your help will not only benefit the students today, but it will also help ensure that our country's future will be filled with bright, successful, and productive citizens.
