My Students
My students are from a Title One school in rural Oklahoma where I also grew up. A large percentage of our students live below the poverty level and have rarely experienced the world outside of our local area. They need opportunities to gain new experiences with hands-on learning about the world outside our rural area.
COVID has provided new challenges for my students and my classroom.
Moving from a traditional learning environment to one without pencil and paper has been good, but sometimes, frustrating for them. I know they have the desire and ability to learn and grow; they just need the opportunity and the tools. Exploring ideas in tangible ways is something my students enjoy and have a definite interest in doing. They understand what they need to succeed; they just lack the experience and the tools.
My Project
I know that ball racks and bean toss games don't seem to be the sort of thing that people imagine that schools would ask for, but my high school students asked if I could get these things donated.
Students at our school seem to do better in class if they have opportunities to have fun in their out of class time.
I want them to have something to look forward to during their off time. Corn hole is something that even the "non-athletic" kids can do and I know they will have fun and be appreciative of these games.
