My Project

My Title I school doesn't have the funds to purchase new desks for classrooms and high school kids can be quite large, making sitting at a desk with the chair attached uncomfortable. It also hinders collaborative learning. Tables and chairs foster an environment conducive to building community and a culture of learning.

Removing desks will also allow me to easily reconfigure students into learning groups, which is something our current arrangement does not make easy, as there are 3 different desk styles in my classroom.

Traditional rows, which is how my classroom is arranged now, are out dated and prevent students from being comfortable. If students are comfortable, they are better able to focus and attend to what we need to accomplish during our time together.

By replacing the desks, some of which are broken, and replacing them with tables also frees up the functional desks for other district classrooms.
