Big Feelings, Little Tools: A Play Therapy Project

Help me give my students sand trays, Zen garden tools, figurines and other items to be successful academically, as well as in the real world!

My Project

At our diverse Title I elementary school, our students come from a wide range of cultural and linguistic backgrounds—speaking 13 different languages, spanning Pre-K through 5th grade, and facing economic challenges that often add extra layers of stress to their young lives. Many of our students carry emotional burdens they don’t yet have the words to express. That’s where play therapy becomes not just helpful, but transformative.

Play is a universal language.

It crosses cultural, developmental, and linguistic barriers—making it the perfect medium for healing and connection in our school community. With the right tools—like sand trays, miniatures, therapeutic games, and imaginative play materials—we can give students a safe space to work through trauma, anxiety, grief, and other social-emotional challenges. Through sand and play therapy, children are able to process big feelings in small, manageable ways. They build confidence, learn to self-regulate, and begin to understand themselves and others more deeply. These materials won’t just sit on a shelf—they’ll be put to work helping students find peace, resilience, and joy.

Your donation will help me set up my new office to be a calm, supportive, and engaging space where students feel safe, seen, and valued. With your support, I can create an environment where play therapy can truly thrive—so every student has a chance to heal, grow, and succeed.
