This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a second-grade teacher, who is moving to kindergarten next year, at a Title I school in Arizona. My school is a low-income/high poverty school where at least 89% of our students receive free or reduced lunch. Our population consists of a vast majority of Hispanic minority children. My students are faced with many challenges both inside and outside the classroom daily. Despite these challenges, they love coming to school to learn. They love to feel that sense of community and consistency that we have and know that everything they need for learning is available for them so they don't miss out on anything.

Children are like wet cement, whatever falls on them makes an impression.

Our school is also a fitness school where our kids are learning to live a happy, healthy life as well as grow and learn. We also have teachers who teach after school clubs both of academics and fitness in order to give our kids the best that they deserve. We want to provide our students with meaningful learning experiences whenever possible and to do what we must to all do our best every day no matter what challenges arise.

My Project

My students are new to the school world. They are learning so much so quickly. Having access to a classroom library full of books opens a whole new world to each of them. They are all coming in at different levels and with different backgrounds and exposure to literature. These books will allow each of my kindergardeners to grow at their own pace and foster a love for reading and learning at their level. A variety of books with pictures, sight words and lessons will help shape the minds of our little ones for the big future ahead of them.
