I am currently a Full Day Kindergarten teacher who has decided to implement Literacy Work Stations in my classroom this year.
We read Big Books daily as part of our Literacy Work Stations. Once we are done sharing the Big Book for the week, it gets placed in our Big Book Work Station-a large plastic tub, where the books fall over and get wrinkled. It is also very difficult for my students to get the books to stand up in the tub that they are currently in because there is nothing to hold the books upright. The skill envelopes that accompany the Big Books are often separated from the book due to the awkward way they are stored.
I would like to provide my students with these new Big Books and Big Book Storage Center to provide ease of use for them during their time daily at our Big Book Station. The Big Books that I have selected are all books we read and enjoy currently, but in the little book version. It is difficult to share these with my students on such a small scale. If we had these Big Books and Big Book Storage Center, we could share these books more frequently and the children would be able to use Big Books that were stored appropriately, not with torn and wrinkled pages. We use the Big Books on a constant basis, working through them to find vocabulary, sight words, and to help improve our fluency, oral retelling, and sequencing skills.
